My wife and I spent a great night out together at a concert on 10 February 2018. We went to see, award-winning English singer/songwriter, Seal. The venue; the beautiful Edwardian building, known as The Usher Hall, in Edinburgh, Scotland. This is Scotland’s only five-star concert hall, boasting amazing acoustics, and has hosted concerts since 1914.
This concert was the first date of Seal’s Standards Tour. It was a concert of two halves; the first half gave us standards, such as “They Can’t Take That Away From Me”, “My Funny Valentine”, “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” and “It Was A Very Good Year”. Seal did all of these songs justice; his voice reminding me, at times, of Nat King Cole.
After this, the Usher Hall appeared to come alive, as, in the words of the great man himself, we took “a trip down memory lane”. Hit followed hit, as we were treated to a string of classics. First of all, the Grammy award-winning “Kiss From A Rose”, then gems such as “Future Love Paradise”, “Prayer For The Dying”, “Fly Like An Eagle” and “Killer”. Seal’s voice didn’t seem to be any different from when he was singing in the 90’s. The encore was none other than “Crazy”, as the concert hall erupted once more. What an amazing evening’s entertainment!
