Privacy Notice

Who I am

My name is Mark Scott Robson and this notice pertains to https://markscottrobson.com, a personal and non-commercial site operated by myself.

Analytics

I use Koko Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics plugin for WordPress. It does not use any external services, so your data is never shared with any third-party company. Data about visits to my site is mine and mine alone. No personal information or visitor specific data is collected and you can easily opt out of tracking by enabling “Do Not Track” in your browser settings. No cookies are ever used, as I have enabled the option not to use them. Last but not least, Koko Analytics is GDPR compliant by design, so there is no need for me to put an invasive consent banner on my site.

Comments

When you leave comments on the site, I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (eg videos, images, articles, etc). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you have visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Dark Mode

My site uses LocalStorage to save the setting when Dark Mode support is turned on or off. LocalStorage is necessary for the setting to work and is only used when a user clicks on the Dark Mode button. No data is saved in the database or transferred.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

All data pertaining to personal abuse, stalking, and harassment is retained indefinitely.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes, including stalking and harassment.

Where I send your data

This site is hosted and backed up in the United Kingdom.

Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service. I use Akismet and their service privacy policy is available here.
