Who I am
My name is Mark Scott Robson and this notice pertains to https://markscottrobson.com, a personal and non-commercial site operated by myself.
I use WordPress.com Stats, a feature of the Jetpack plugin from Automattic. This lets me know how many visits my site gets and what posts and pages are the most popular.
The data collected from visitors to my site is as follows: IP address, WordPress.com user ID (if logged in), WordPress.com username (if logged in), user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, country code, post and page views, video plays (if videos are hosted by WordPress.com), outbound link clicks, referring URLs and search engine terms, and country.
Any piece of data explicitly identifying a specific user (IP address, WordPress.com ID, WordPress.com username, etc) is not visible to me when using this feature. For example, I can see that a specific post has 285 views, but I cannot see which specific users/accounts viewed that post.
Stats logs – containing visitor IP addresses and WordPress.com usernames (if available) – are retained by Automattic for 28 days and are used only for the purpose of powering this feature.
When you leave comments on the site, I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
If you leave a comment on my site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (eg videos, images, articles, etc). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you have visited the other website.
My site uses LocalStorage to save the setting when Dark Mode support is turned on or off. LocalStorage is necessary for the setting to work and is only used when a user clicks on the Dark Mode button. No data is saved in the database or transferred.
How long I retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
All data pertaining to personal abuse, stalking, and harassment is retained indefinitely.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes, including stalking and harassment.
Where I send your data
This site is hosted and backed up in the United Kingdom.
